Ralph Green

Ralph E. Green, 78, died Wednesday, February 11, 2009. Viewing and visitation will be from 5:00 to 7:00 PM on Tuesday, February 17th at Elmwood Funeral Home, 5750 HWY 277 South. A graveside service will be held at 10:00 AM on Wednesday, February 18 in Elmwood Memorial Park where Mr. Green will be entombed temporarily. He will be moved to the new Texas State Veterans Cemetery when it opens later this year.

Ralph was born on July 9, 1930 in Joplin, Missouri the son of Lloyd C. Green and Gladys Kennedy Green. He graduated from Joplin High School in 1948 and has remained active with the planning committee organizing class reunions and contributing to the establishment of a scholarship fund on behalf of the class. He joined the Air Force in 1951 and spent 20 years in service to his country. His time in the Air Force included a tour in the Korean Conflict, service in the Honor Guard assigned to President Eisenhower, and stations in New Mexico and Alaska. After retirement from the Air Force he worked in Security and managed several Auto Parts stores. After moving to Abilene in 1986, he was the grounds keeper for the Dyess Golf Course. He has been married to Barbara Kreger Green since October 27, 1956. He enjoyed fishing, working in the yard, and traveling.

Survivors include his wife, Barbara of Abilene; his son, Earl Green and wife Jackie D. of Abilene; four grandchildren, Cathleen, Mark, Tara and Tana; great grandchildren, Mylic and Taylor; his brother, Frank Green of Kansas City, Missouri; brothers-in-law, Robert and Lawrence Kreger both Denver, Colorado; 3 nieces and 2 nephews, four great nieces and one great nephew, and numerous cousins and friends.

His great grandson, Demetric, preceded him in death.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations are suggested to the Taylor Veterans Service Office, 400 Oak St, STE 170, Abilene, Texas 79602.
