Reed Armand Ingalsbe, 92, of Abilene went to be with our Lord on Thursday, May 30, 2013. Memorial services will be held at First Baptist Church on Saturday, June 22 at 11:00 a.m. with Palmer McCown officiating. The family will receive friends immediately following the service. A private family burial will be held at Elmwood Memorial Park.
Reed was born on August 22, 1920, to the late Ford and Thelma Ingalsbe in Toledo, Ohio. He graduated from Waite High School in 1937 and served in the Air Force from 19421945. He married Nadine Hollingshead in 1945, and they had three children. After Nadines passing, he married Ione Nonie Penman West in 1977.
Reed served on the U.S. Border Patrol Department of Justice for 18 months on the Canadian and Mexican borders. He then received his BBA degree from HardinSimmons University in 1948 and graduated from Baylor Law School in 1950. He was appointed Taylor County Judge in 1952, then reelected to two consecutive terms, serving a total of ten years. Being active in his community, Reed served as president of the Kiwanis Club and as Lt. Gov. of Division 12 with perfect club attendance for 28 years. He also served as chairman of Taylor County Red Cross Board, chairman of the Board of the Salvation Army as well as Chairman of the Board of Adjustment. For ten years, Reed taught adult Sunday School at University Baptist Church and at the time of his death was a member of First Baptist Church and a member of the Primetime Sunday School Department. He was an avid golfer, always searching for techniques and equipment to improve his game.
Reed was preceded in death by his first wife, Nadine, in 1976 his second wife, Nonie, in 2010 his brother, Allen, in 1999 his parents and his stepdaughter, Linda Penman, in 2011. He is survived by his three children Brenda Barney and husband,
Bruce, of Copperas Cove, TX Lynn Ingalsbe and wife, Dottie, of Abilene and Kay Close and husband, Bob, of Hernando, FL two stepchildren: Bill Penman and wife, Reida, of Rochester, TX and Bob Penman of Austin, TX 12 grandchildren and 13 greatgrandchildren whom he dearly loved.
