Refugio Patiño

Refugio (Kooko, Kooke) Patiño, 81, of Abilene, Tx passed away after a long illness, surrounded by his wife and family Sunday, October 1, 2017. Visitation will begin at 6:00 PM followed by a prayer service/rosary beginning at 7:00 PM, Thursday, October 5, 2017 at Elmwood Funeral Home, 5750 Hwy 277 S. A funeral mass will be 10:00 AM Friday October 6, 2017 at Saint Vincent Pallotti Catholic Church, 2525 Westview. Interment will follow in Elmwood Memorial Park.

Born March 21, 1936 in Rowena, Tx to Victor Patiño and Ignacia Patiño. He married Olivia De La Garza in Ballinger, Tx on July 13, 1958 and were blessed with 59 years of marriage. Refugio started working with J.H. Strain and Sons Road Construction in 1958 and eventually moved to Abilene and retired from AISD custodian in September 20, 2013. He was a member at St. Vincent Pallotti Catholic Church since 1969 where he served as an usher and cursillista.
He was preceded in death by his parents; three brothers, Gerado Patiño, Henry Patiño and Victor Jr. Patiño; and one sister, Virginia Galvan.

He is survived by his wife, Olivia, three daughters, Diane Quintanilla (Eloy), Joann Gutierrez (Danny), Ruby Prado (David); three sons, Refugio Jr. Patiño (Liza), Fernando Patiño , Luis Patiño (Rosalinda); 15 grandchildren, 8 great grandchildren, and two sisters, Felicitas Bautista and Mary Lopez both of Ballinger. .

Pallbearers will be, Refugio Jr Patiño, Luis Patiño, Fernando Patiño, Eloy Quintanilla, Danny Gutierrez, and David Prado. Honorary pallbearers will be, Augustine Gutierrez, Eric Prado, Andre Patiño, Anthony Patiño, Adam Patiño, and Clemente Lozano.

A special thanks to his doctors at Hendricks, Dr. Thorpe, Dr.Gao, Dr. Hayashi, Dr.Cavuoti. A special thanks to the staff at Hendricks Hospice Care especially his nurse Angie, Robert, Yolanda and Sandra.
