Reinhold "Pete" Albert Weinkauf Jr., 81, passed away Saturday, October 24, 2015 in Abilene.
Visitation will be from 6:00 to 7:30 PM, Wednesday, October 28, 2015 at Elmwood Funeral Home, 5750 Hwy 277 South. Funeral service will be 1:30 PM, Thursday, October 29, 2015 at Zion Lutheran Church, 2801 Antilley Road. Interment will follow the service at Elmwood Memorial Park.
Pete was born May 3, 1934 in Big Spring, Texas to R.A. Weinkauf and Cozie Weinkauf Draper. He moved to Midland, TX at the age of 16 and was the Easter Seal Poster Boy for Midland County in 1952. He graduated Midland High School in 1954 and attended Kilgore College, where he studied watchmaking and jewelry repair. He married Joann Bush on April 20, 1963 in Midland. The couple moved to Abilene in June of 1968, where he worked for Clovis Bevill, his former instructor at Kilgore College, at Bevill's Jewelers. In 1974, he bought Bevill's Jewelers changing the name to Weinkauf Jewelers and continued to provide great service to the Abilene community for the next 41 years.
Pete is survived by his wife, Joann; three children, Karen Weinkauf Birge and husband Wes of Lewisville, Melissa Weinkauf Reynolds and husband Randall of Covington, LA, Kevin Weinkauf and wife Jennifer of Abilene; 12 grandchildren, Kelsey, Brady, Ryley, Kelli, Brian and wife P.J., R.J., Sandie, Bradley, Rebecca, Tate, Sydney and soon to be grandson-in-law Nick; two brothers Albert Weinkauf and wife Diane of Midland, George Weinkauf and wife Bernice of Mills, TX, and one sister Margaret Demetro and Husband Frank of Vallejo, CA; brother-in-law, Ed Bush and wife Nancy of Denver, CO.
He was preceded in death by his father and mother; stepfather and stepmother; one brother; and two sisters; mother-in-law; two brothers-in-law; and three sisters-in-law.
He was a lifelong Lutheran and a member at Zion Lutheran Church. He has been a member of Abilene Evening Lions Club, Texas Jeweler's Association, Abilene Bass Club and Texas Watchmaker's Association. He loved to fish.
Pete is now in Heaven casting the rod and reel with no pain with fishing buddies, his brother, Richard and brother-in-law, Bill.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorial donations to the Zion Lutheran debt relief fund, 2801 Antilley Road, Abilene, TX 79606, or Texas Scottish Rite Hospital, 2222 Welborn St, Dallas, TX 75219.
