Rex Nolen

Rex Wayne Nolen, 69, passed away Friday, February 7, 2014 in Abilene. His funeral service will be held at 1:00 PM on Monday, February 10th in the Elmwood Funeral Home Chapel, 5750 HWY 277 South with interment following in Elmwood Memorial Park. Visitation is from 4:00 to 6:00 PM on Sunday at Elmwood Funeral Home.

Rex was born on September 18, 1944 in Lamesa, Texas, the son of cotton farmers Arthur Lee Nolen and Calous Ray Nolen. He was a 1st Lieutenant in the U.S. Army during the Vietnam War and was awarded a Bronze Star for his service to our country. Rex married Linda Gene Coleman on January 27, 1968 in Lampasas. He received both his bachelors and masters degrees in accounting from TCU and was a member of the Delta Tau Delta Fraternity. He worked many years as a Certified Public Accountant in Abilene. Rex had a lifelong love for West Texas and farming, remaining active with the family cotton farm in Lamesa. He was a loyal Dallas Cowboys and Texas Rangers fan and enjoyed collecting baseball memorabilia. Rex was the Worlds Best Dad to his three daughters and was always deeply involved in everything that they did.

Survivors include daughters, Natalee Sommerfeld and husband Gregg of Granbury, Amy Butler and husband Cody of Arlington, and Julie Nolen of Austin four grandchildren, Austin Sommerfeld, Anna May Sommerfeld, Nolen Butler and Marylin Butler two sisters, Connie Smith and husband Wayne of Lamesa and Iris Nan Millender and husband Paul of Ft. Worth and several nieces and nephews and extended family members.

His parents and his wife of preceded him in death.
