Reynaldo Vargas

Reynaldo Rey Vargas, 74, passed away on Wednesday, August 29, 2007 at a local hospital.

A Memorial service will be at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, September 8, 2007 at the Elmwood West United Methodist Church, 1302 S. Pioneer, Abilene, TX with Rev. Robert Pelfrey officiating.

Ray was born in Baytown, TX on June 22, 1933 to Marcelino Vargas and Enriqueta Medrano Vargas. December 16, 1956 he married Marjorie Futter in the UK.

Ray served in the United States Army and Air Force for 27 years. After retiring in 1967 he worked Civil Service for the Post Office for 20 years. Since 1974 he was a member of the Elmwood West United Methodist Church where he was very active in Sunday school and choir. He held various leadership positions in the church and served on numerous committees. In his earlier years he liked to travel, dance and golf. He enjoyed people and helping those in need.

He is survived by his wife, Marjorie Vargas of Abilene; two sons and wives, Larry and Julie Vargas of Phoenix, AZ and Glen Andrew and Barbara Vargas of Atlanta, GA; two brothers, Rudy and Robert Vargas; half-brother, Nando Vargas; half-sister, Frances Valesco; six grandchildren; and other family members and many friends.

He was preceded in death by a brother, Mike Vargas.

In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to the donors choice.
