Richard Chief Crawford, 72, died on Sunday, June 8, 2008 at a local hospital.
Visitation for family and friends will be 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. Wednesday, June 11, 2008 at Elmwood Funeral Home, 5750 Hwy. 277 South. Funeral services under the direction of Elmwood Funeral Home will be 9:00 a.m. on Thursday, June 12 at Elmwood Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Mike Berry officiating; interment will follow in Elmwood Memorial Park with full military honors.
Chief was born on July 7, 1935 in Morgantown, WV to Russell and Gladys Crawford. He married Jocelyn Hastings on July 15, 1956 in AZ. He joined the United States Air Force in October 1953 and served for 30 years; he retired April 25, 1984 as a chief master sergeant. They moved to Abilene in 1980; after retiring from the Air Force he went to work at the Abilene post office until 2002. He loved to play bingo everyday, enjoyed camping with his family and he was grandpa to many.
He is survived by his two sons, Richard L. Crawford and wife, Shawnie of Abilene, and Timothy D. Crawford of Dyersburg, TN; daughter Laurie A. Gilbert and husband, Randy of Abilene; brother, Thomas F. Crawford and wife, Jean of Conroe, TX; brother in law and sister in law, Douglas and Rosemary Hastings of Scottsdale, AZ; six grandchildren; two great grandchildren; a dear lifetime friend, Charlie Chandler; and many friends and Bingo Buddies.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Jocelyn Crawford, February 8, 2007; daughter, Melissa Lloyd; and brother, John G. Crawford.
