Richard Wayne Jones, 78, passed away peacefully on Friday, August 9, 2024, in Abilene, Texas. A graveside service will be 10:00 AM, Friday, August 30, 2024 at Elmwood Memorial Park, 5750 Hwy 277 South.

Born on August 24, 1945, in Oakridge, Tennessee, Richard was the beloved son of Raymond and Evelyn Jones.

A proud graduate of McMurry University, Richard was an active member of the Kiva Bird fraternity, where he forged lifelong friendships and memories. On November 27, 1970, he married the love of his life, Bobbie Jones, with whom he shared a beautiful and enduring love story.

Richard was deeply committed to his community, dedicating countless hours as a Boy Scout leader, PTA volunteer, and assisting in building sets for his daughters' dance studio. His service extended to his spiritual home at St. Paul United Methodist Church, where he was a devoted choir member and always eager to lend a hand with youth activities.

Above all, Richard was a wonderful father and grandfather, whose love, guidance, and kindness will forever be cherished by his family.

He is preceded in death by his beloved wife, Darlene Jones; his parents; and his brother, Jerry Jones.

Richard is survived by his daughter, Christina Kitchell and husband Patrick; grandchildren, Zachariah Kitchell and wife Patrish, and Jacob Kitchell; two nieces, Karen Jones, and Lisa Story; and numerous extended family and dear friends.

Richard leaves behind a legacy of love, service, and devotion to family and community. His memory will be a blessing to all who knew and loved him.
