Rita Caverly

Rita Faye Caverly, 70, of Abilene passed away, Saturday, March 26, 2022, in Abilene.

A funeral service will be held on Wednesday, March 30, 2022, at 12:30 PM at Elmwood Funeral Home Chapel, 5750 US HWY 277 S., Abilene, TX 79606. Interment will follow at Texas State Veterans Cemetery, Abilene, TX. A visitation will be held on Wednesday, March 30, from 11:00 to 12:30 PM prior to the service.

Rita was born on January 17, 1952, in San Antonio, Texas to the late Fred and Ina Chapman. She had 3 brothers - Johnny, J.H, Roy and 2 sisters - Freddie and LaRue. Rita married Jerrid Caverly on July 4, 1999, and they were married for 22 years.

Rita was Momma to many and a friend to all. If you've ever received a butt pinch or three kisses, you were one of hers. It always put a smile on her face to see anyone come through her front door. Rita always worked hard and played hard but, most importantly that woman loved hard. When God decided to loan her to us, he made her with kisses that made you whole and hugs that could heal your soul. God knew that anyone who entered her life would be better just to have known her, but he couldn't leave such a treasure on Earth forever.

Rita is survived by her daughters Pam Smith, Jeanne Upchurch, and husband Jeff Upchurch and one daughter in law - Kim Lowe. Seven grandchildren - Mandy Alexander and husband Tony Alexander. Brandon Callaway, Rick and Dakota Upchurch, Thomas Johnson, and wife Natalie, Jasyn Johnson and wife Krista, and Michael Johnson. Six great grandchildren - Emery and Cambri Alexander, Lilian, Nikolai, Silas and Ayden Johnson. As well as a ton of nieces, nephews, and cousins.

Rita was also proceeded in death by her husband Jerrid Caverly, her first husband Rick Johnson, Her son - Shawn George and all five of her siblings.
