Robert Charles Charlie Beaird, 75, passed away Friday, October 14, 2011 in Abilene. A graveside service will be held at 11:00 AM Monday, October 17, 2011 in the Memorial Lawn section of Elmwood Memorial Park.
Charlie was born in Potosi on March 14, 1936 the son of James Howard Beaird and Emily Estelle Bockman Beaird. He graduated from Merkel High School and later served in the U.S. Army during the Korean Conflict. He married Louise Newton on March 14, 1961. Charlie worked as a mail carrier with the U.S. Postal Service for over 30 years. He was a talented wood carver, an avid knife collector, enjoyed watching western movies and most recently enjoyed being involved with the Merkel Area Historical Museum. He was a long time member of the First Assembly of God Church.
Survivors include his son, Steve Beaird and wife Melissa of Abilene two grandsons, James and Greg Beaird of Abilene his brother, Billy Beaird and wife Virginia of Baird his sister, Linda Beaird Emerson and husband Jimmie of Merkel and numerous nieces and nephews.
His parents, his daughter, Nancy Elaine Beaird, his wife, Louise and his brothers, James M. Beaird and Gary Lynn Beaird preceded him in death.
Memorial donations are suggested to Merkel Area Historical Museum, 1501 N. 7th Street, Merkel, TX 79536
