Robert Warren Forkner, Sr., 86, passed away June 24, 2014 in Abilene. Graveside funeral service will be 2:00 PM, Saturday, June 28, 2014 at Elmwood Memorial Park, 5750 hwy 277 South.
Robert was born April 22, 1928 in Seminole Oklahoma to, Ray Warren and Lillian Alene Edwards Forkner. He married Mary Ruth Smith, April 12, 1952 in Trent, Texas. He dedicated four years of faithful service to our country in the United States Air Force. He worked in the oil field industry for thirty years. He was very active in the Boy Scouts of America and received the Silver Beaver. He also enjoyed coaching little league baseball especially his sons and grandsons teams.
Robert is survived by his wife of sixtytwo years, Mary Ruth two sons, Robert Jr. and wife Debbie of Spicewood, TX, Roger and wife Susie of Abilene three daughters, Gayle Moon of Merkel, Loyce Irvin and husband Ken of Abilene, Cloyce Derrick and husband Greg of Abilene two sisters, Doris Clark, Rhonda Hunt three brothers, Harold, Dickie and Billy Neal Forkner fifteen grandchildren seventeen greatgrandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his dad, Ray and stepmother, Nadine mother, Lillian and stepfather, John Graves and one sister, Patty.
The family would like to give special thanks to Coronado Nursing Center, Dr. Joseph Ferguson and staff, and Hendrick Hospice Care for their care and support.
In lieu of flowers the family suggest memorial donations be made in Roberts honor to the Boy Scouts of America.
