ABILENE - Robert F. ("Bob") Gill, 93, of Abilene, Texas, passed away peacefully on April 22, 2022.
Bob was born September 11, 1928, in Brockton, Massachusetts to Mary L. and Francis M. Gill. He graduated from George Washington High School in Alexandria, Virginia in 1946, and he moved to Abilene in August of 1947. He met and soon married June J. (Scott) Gill March 23, 1951, in Abilene, and they remained married 71 wonderful years until Bob's death, never spending more than a dozen nights apart through the years. After some years as a journeyman electrician, Bob co-founded and operated Key City Electric Co. (1954-1986) providing residential, commercial, and some industrial electrical services for the citizens and businesses of Abilene and the surrounding area. Through his leadership at Key City Electric Co., Bob trained many future electricians and owners of electrical services companies, many of whom still operate in and around Abilene today. Bob passed along his strong work ethic and productive work life to his two sons, Kevin and Kelly, as they both learned the electrical trade while earning a journeyman electrician's license. Bob proudly held a master electrical license from the early 1950's until his death.
After and during his time in private business, Bob also devoted himself to serving the needs of others by using his leadership and organizational skills to benefit his church and many non¬profit organizations including: Aldersgate Methodist Church (since 1960) where he was chairman of the Board of Trustees, chairman of the pre-school board, church treasurer and Sunday school superintendent; Abilene/Downtown Rotary Club (1962- 1996); Bank of Commerce, Director (1977-1988); Sears Methodist Retirement System, Board of Trustees (1972-2009); City of Abilene, Board of Electrical Examiners (1970-72, 1974-1990, 14 years as chairman); Abilene Construction Association, chairman; Central Appraisal District of Taylor
County, Director (1981-1995, 10 years as chairman); Expo Center of Taylor County volunteer; Business Aid; and United Way. Service to the church and community was always important to Bob and June.
Bob also took time for avocational interests of fishing, restoring used boats, photography, woodcrafts, and craft shows.
