Robert Hinshaw

September 14, 1931 — September 1, 2014

Robert Bob Hinshaw, 82, joined our Lord in Heaven on Monday September 1, 2014.

A funeral service will be held Thursday September 4, 2014 at 10:30 AM at the Elmwood Funeral Home Chapel. Burial will follow at Elmwood Memorial Park. Visitation with the family will be Wednesday from 6:00 to 8:00 PM at the funeral home.

Bob was born on September 14, 2014 in Sweetwater, Texas to the proud parents Leo Hinshaw and Helma Schubert. He was a graduate of Sweetwater High School class of 1950 and enlisted with the Unites States Air Force. During his 4 year enlistment he was stationed at Eniwetok Island in the Marshall Islands where he witnessed the A bomb and H bomb explosions first hand. Bob then transferred to Fort Bliss in El Paso where he met his beautiful wife Mary Jayne Smith at the Red Rooster Drive In and it was love at first sight. Seven days later on July 4, 1952 they married in El Paso. She preceded him in death on May 11, 1994. After the Air Force they moved back to Sweetwater and opened a Toy Store for 6 years until they relocated to Abilene. Bob became the manager of a local cable TV provider until he retired in 1991. He and Jayne were blessed to adopt 3 daughters Kristy, Karen and Renee. They had many wonderful stories they would share of their travels on the road in their motor home of their fishing trips, golfing, gambling and ship boat adventures as he called the cruise lines. Many of you know Bob was also a longtime loyal Dallas Cowboys fan, not much could keep him from watching their games. He always looked forward to the regular poker sessions with family and longtime friends. We will miss him dearly and are comforted to know we have another guardian angel watching over us.

He was also preceded in death by his sister Ruby Guess and sistersinlaw Pat Hinshaw and Eska Hinshaw.

Bob is survived by his 3 daughters, Kristy Barrett and Renee Hinshaw of Abilene, Karen Hinshaw of Brownwood brothers, Hershel Hinshaw of Snyder, Morris Hinshaw of Sweetwater nieces, Pamela Phiffer of Midland, Vicki Johnson of Snyder, Sharon Gotcher of Sterling City, Susan Story of Temple nephews, Brent Hinshaw of Denton, Toby Hinshaw of Arlington, Steve Hinshaw of San Angelo, Stuart Hinshaw of Houston great niece Shay Minor and many more nieces, nephews and cousins.
