Robert Lee Bob Hodges Jr., 76, passed away on Thursday, June 11, 2009 at his home in Abilene. Viewing and visitation will be from 5:00 to 7:00 PM on Monday, June 15th at Elmwood Funeral Home, 5750 HWY 277 South. His funeral service with Mel Swayer and Bob Patterson officiating will be held at 2:00 PM on Tuesday, June 16th at the Trinity Baptist Church, 871 Woodlawn with burial following in Elmwood Memorial Park.
Mr. Hodges was born in Martinsville, Virginia on March 14, 1933 the son of Robert Lee Hodges Sr. and Nannie Lou Stovall Hodges. He grew up in Stuart, Virginia where he graduated from high school. He served in the U.S. Army for two years before becoming a career Air Force man, serving two tours in Vietnam and spending a total of 24 years in service to his country. After retirement from the Air Force, he worked 18 years at Pride Refinery. He was active with Bible Study Fellowship International, was a member of the VFW, volunteered his time taking fellow veterans from Care Inn to their doctor appointments in Big Spring and was a volunteer for Red Cross. He was an avid hunter and fisherman.
Survivors include his wife of 51 years, Sheila Hodges of Abilene; his, daughter, Alicia Thompson of Abilene; his son, Aaron Hodges of Austin; grandsons, Jared Thompson of Greensboro, NC, and Benjamin Thompson of Winston-Salem, N.C.; and sisters, Mary Virginia Fain of Martinsville, Virginia and Lucy Mae Lawson of Madison, N.C.
He was preceded in death by his parents, and siblings, Maggie DeHart, F.M. Hodges, Ima Willard, Ben Hodges and T.K. Hodges.
