Robert Dean "Bob" Leavitt was born in Smithtown, New York on September 24, 1937 and entered into eternal rest on August 13, 2023 at the age of 85. He was able to spend his last days surrounded by loved ones at Hendrick Hospice Care.
After graduating high school, Bob proudly served his country in the United States Air Force. During his military service he earned his paratrooper wings, became a member of an elite combat control team, served in Vietnam, and attained the rank of Master Sergeant. After 20 years of service, he settled in Abilene Texas. He subsequently worked for the City of Abilene, then the United States Postal Service before retirement.
Bob was a man of varied interests and enjoyed many interesting hobbies including building computers, salt water aquariums, music, and reading.
Left to cherish his memory are his wife of 46 years, Jeanne Leavitt; daughter, Barbara Albro and her husband William; son, John Leavitt and his wife Heather; son, James Leavitt and his wife Tina ; stepdaughter, Joelle Flaherty and her husband Chuck; stepson, Robert Coffin and his wife Michele; and grandchildren, Alyssa Albro, Aaron Leavitt, Chris Leavitt, Ian Leavitt, Justin Leavitt, Travis Gordon, Ryan Coffin, and Carly Paul.
The family will celebrate Bob's life with a private memorial service after his cremated remains are interred at the Texas State Veterans Cemetery in Abilene.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Disabled American Veterans or Wheelchairs for Warriors.
