Robert Olson

December 31, 1950 — February 2, 2019

Robert W. Olson, 68, of Abilene passed away Saturday, February 2nd, 2019 at his home in Abilene...

Robert was born on Dec. 31st, 1950, in Prescott Wisconsin to Robert and Beatrice Olson. He was the third of 5 children. The family moved to Grantsburg Wisconsin when Robert was a very young boy and he grew up and graduated from High School there. As a child and young man Roberts interest were mostly geared towards sports. He was a three sport athlete, an avid and very successful wrestler in high school, even having the opportunity to wrestle with Olympians. He also played football and successfully achieved the honor of being all conference and excelled in track and field.

After High School Robert ventured off to college at Gustavus Adolphus. He attended Gustavus for two years where he was active in both football and wrestling.

After his couple of years at Gustavus Robert returned to Grantsburg where he was able to work for and be very involved in the local high school. He enjoyed working for the school system and being involved with the kids.

He loved living in Grantsburg and became an expert hunter and fisherman. He logged many hours in a tree stand with a bow and arrow and even did some bear hunting in Canada. His fall and winters were spent in the woods deer hunting, his spring and summers were spent either on the river or on the lake fishing. He had a great love for the outdoors and all that that brought to his life.

Eventually he decided that he was ready to go back to college and warmer climates were calling his name. He enrolled in college in McAllen Texas. He enjoyed his time in the sun and was a very successful student earning a 4.0 and graduating with honors. After earning his degree, he did a short stint of teaching down in the valley but discovered that wasn't really his calling. He then made the decision to move here to Abilene in the early 90's.

It was shortly after his move to Abilene that he met his longtime friend and business associate, Kent Beck.

Robert was a generous soul. He never shied away from helping anyone in need.

The family is truly thankful for the relationships Robert had here with his many friends. He shared often with his sisters about the adventures and antics of all of you. You were all very important to Robert and he was very grateful for your friendship.

Robert is survived by his two sisters, Molly and Penny and his brother David (Oly) Olson, many nieces and nephews and countless friends and coworkers.

Robert was preceded in death by both of his parents and his older sister Susan.
