Robert Odell "Capt N" Thomas Jr.

Robert Odell Thomas Jr. 68 died Monday, December 12, 2016 at Hendick Medical Center. Funeral Service Will be Monday, December 19, 2016 at Elmwood Funeral Home, 5750 Hwy 277 South, Abilene, Texas. Burial will follow in the Elmwood Memorial Park. The wake will be at the funeral home from 4:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. Sunday, December 18, 2016.

Odell was born in Hale Center Texas to Robert Odell Thomas Sr. and Dorothy Mae Williams. Around the age of 5 yrs. old, after the passing of both his infant baby brother and older sister Vernell Thomas, my dad moved in with his Maternal Grandparents, Henry and Henrietta Williams in Sylvester, Texas. He attended Oscar DePriest School in Hamlin, Texas and after high school he joined the Peace Corps and moved to California before enlisting into the Marines Corps. He served on the front line during the Vietnam War, earning several medals and awards including the Purple Heart before being Honorably Discharged.

He married Laverne Conner Thomas on February 5, 1972. To this union was born one daughter Stephanie Dionne Thomas.

My dad has always been a hard worker, beginning on his grandparent's farm to the City of Abilene Refuge Department then to the Oilfield from 1979 to 1998 retiring from Halliburton when the company closed their doors in Abilene. Three days after retiring he was hired by Cypress Truck Lines in Tye, Texas retiring in 2015 after medical problems.

Odell is survived by his daughter, Stephanie and Son-in-law Renndell Mosley., Three Grandchildren he cherished, his two grand men, Xavier Kavel and Zachery Renndell Mosley and his Fe Fe Wisdom Marye-Ozeal Mosley and two great grandchildren, Khaliyah and Jalen Mosley and their mother Marina Ledesma. Five brothers, Travis Wallace (Donna), Curtis Wallace (Connie), Larry Wallace. Jerry Wallace and Rudy Wallace (Denver). Three Sisters, Emma Jean Hunter (Timothy), Doris Wallace and Brenda Bailey (Joseph). Five uncles, Eddie Williams (Carol), Clyde Williams (Esther), Robert Williams (Eva), LeRoy Williams (Dorothy Nell) and Johnnie Byrd. Aunt Helen Clark and a special cousin/sister, Marva Jo Edwards (Donald). Two Sister-in-laws, Octavia Conner and Vanessa Pimpton. Four Brother-in-laws, Douglas Conner (Toni), Ocie Conner (Pearlie), Bobby Ray Conner (Karen) and Terry Lee Conner.

Odell is preceded in death by his wife Laverne Thomas, his parents and grandparents, sister Vernell, brothers, Kill Roy and Elroy Wallace, Aunts Odessa Kern, Otilla Templeton and Mineola Wiley and Uncle Henry Williams Jr., In-laws Marion "Buddy" & Ozeal Conner, sister-in-law Ruby Conner Morris, two brothers-in-law Marion Conner Jr. and Galen Pimpton.
