Rodney Leuthauser

Rodney Darrell "Shorty" Leuthauser, 79, went to be with the Lord on December 8, 2018. Shorty was born January 16, 1939 to Theodore and Edna Leuthauser in Missouri. After joining the Air Force, he was stationed at Dyess Air Force Base in Abilene, Texas where he met the love of his life Carolyn Jean Hallmark. Shorty and Carolyn married on November 19, 1958, and recently celebrated 60 wonderful years together.

After serving four years in the United States Air Force, he began his career as a jack of all trades. He worked with sheet metal, truck driving, welding, and a number of other things. There was nothing he could not do. In his free time, Shorty enjoyed working with computers, hunting, shooting his bow, and spending time with his family. Aside from these things, he was a man with strong faith who devoted his life to serving the Lord.

Shorty is survived by his loving wife, Carolyn Leuthauser of Hawley; and his four wonderful daughters, Debora Ashley and husband Mike of Hawley, Regina Thompson of Hawley, Lisa Pack and husband Robin of Hawley, and Dana Ancell and husband Darren of Eula; one brother, Larry Leuthauser and family of Missouri; one sister, Karen Bowen and family of Missouri; nine grandchildren; eighteen great grandchildren; and numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins.

He is preceded in death by his mother and father; four brothers; and five sisters; Son in laws, Van Thompson and Tony Pack; one great grandson, Hayden Strickland; two sisters-in-law; two brothers-in-law; two nephews; as well as his mother and father in law, Dall and Louise Hallmark.

Visitation is Monday, December 10th from 6-8 pm at Elmwood Funeral Home, 5750 hwy 277 South in Abilene. Graveside service will be held at Hawley Cemetery on Tuesday, December 11th at 2 pm.

Pallbearers are Tony-Wade Pack, Colton Pack, Lane Ancell, J.T. McCardle, Hunter Hicks, Logan Overton, and Tucker Pack, and honorary pallbearer, Ricky Barbee.
