Rodrigo E. Castillo, 95, passed away Tuesday, May 10, 2022 in Karnes City, Texas. He was born July 7, 1926, in Mexico to Remigio and Francisca Castillo. He married his college sweetheart, Consuelo Castillo, in August of 1951. They moved to the United States in 1956. The couple had seven children, including two sets of twins, and enjoyed 60 plus blissful years of marriage. Once Rodrigo was in the United States, he attended Southern Methodist University and became a pastor of Bethel Methodist Church. During his sermons, he would draw sceneries of his preaching's to provide to the congregation. During 1966, he served as Vice President of 21 Club which had been founded in order to serve the Latin-American community of Abilene by providing help and advice. Along with his wife, he ran the Palace Theater in Abilene which served the Latin community. He was a wonderful chef and ice sculptor at the Petroleum Club where he was also the singer for all their activities. He worked as a chef at Dyess Air Force Base at the NCO and Officers Club. Rodrigo was most known as the radio announcer from Merkel, Texas. He loved to sing at church as well as at all the birthday parties. He was an artist who drew murals on buildings for advertisements for the community as well as numerous birthday cards for his love. He lived his life to serve God and his community. Above all he was the most loving husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, great-great grandfather and friend. He leaves a legacy that his family will carry on for years to come.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Remigio and Francisca Castillo; and his wife Consuelo Castillo.
He is survived by his children, Elizabeth Riojas, Leticia "Kelly" Buxton and her husband Chester, Consuelo "Shelly" Herrera and her husband Ben, Alpha Castillo, Omega Bondoc and her husband Genaro, Rodrigo F. Castillo and his wife Martha, Julie Vasquez and her husband Miguel; 23 grandchildren; 39 great-grandchildren; and 5 great-great grandchildren.
Visitation for family and friends will be 6:00 PM - 8:00 PM , Monday, May 16, 2022 in the Elmwood Funeral Home Chapel, 5750 Hwy 277 South. A funeral service will begin at 11:00 AM, Tuesday, May 17, 2022 at Ambler Baptist Church, 2150 Park Ave. Interment will follow in Elmwood Memorial Park.
