Ronald Glen Colwell, age 76, passed away peacefully on August 27, 2024. Ron was born on August 5, 1948, in Abilene, Tx to Bill and Lucille Colwell. After graduating from Hobbs High School in New Mexico he attended New Mexico State University in which he obtained a bachelor's degree with a major in mathematics. During his college years Ron traveled abroad in a work study program tracking satellites for the government in the Philippines and Afghanistan.
Ron worked for WTU/AEP for 20+ years. After retiring he worked for the Communities of Abilene Federal Credit Union as a data analysis for the past 10 years. Ron was a devout Christian who followed the Lords calling. He has been a member of the Southwest Park Baptist Church for 48 years. Ron was passionate about ministering to others, especially the youth, which led him to teach Sunday school classes, mission work, and being a part of the choir where he sang or played the base guitar. He will be remembered for his kindness, dedication and passion to his work and will leave a lasting impact on the lives of those he mentored.
Ron is preceded in death by his parents, Bill and Lucille Colwell; sister, LuAnn Baker; brother, Jerry Colwell.
Ron is survived by his son, Justin Baker and wife Nikki; his grandchildren, Kinsley and Kara Baker of San Angelo, Tx; his brother, Dan Colwell and wife Jennifer of Midland, Tx; nieces and nephews, Paul Colwell and wife Sherri of Midland, Tx , Chari Oglesby and husband Jason of Dallas, Tx , Michael Colwell and wife Chrysta of San Antonio, Tx , Jason Baker and wife Martha of Wylie Tx, and Mark Colwell and wife Shanna of San Antonio, Tx; Sister-in-law, Sharon Colwell of San Antonio, Tx; 11 great nieces and nephews; special friend, Debra Stevens of Abilene, Tx.
The visitation will be from 6:00 PM - 8:00PM on Friday, August 30 at Elmwood Funeral Home, 5750 HWY 277 South. The funeral service will be held 10:00 AM on Saturday, August 31, 2024 at Southwest Park Baptist Church, 2901 South 20th St, Abilene, Tx. Graveside will be held at Elmwood Memorial Park.
