Ronald Ross

May 23, 1949 — January 21, 2025

Ronald Edward Ross, 75, took his final breaths peacefully on January 21, 2025, in Abilene, Texas, while listening on repeat to the hymn “Something About The Name Jesus.” A visitation will be held on Thursday, January 30, 2025, at the Elmwood Funeral Home Chapel, 5750 Hwy 277 South. Funeral services will follow at 2:00 PM on Friday, January 31, 2025, also at the Elmwood Funeral Home Chapel.

Ronald was born on May 23, 1949, in Houston, Texas. After graduating high school, he proudly served his country by joining the United States Air Force. His service took him across the globe before he ultimately made his final stop in Abilene, Texas, at Dyess Air Force Base. Ronald fell in love with the community and made Abilene his permanent home.

In 1985, Ronald married the love of his life, Dolly, and together they built a life filled with love, faith, and family. After retiring from a distinguished military career, Ronald found new ways to serve his community. He drove the CitiLink Van and worked as a bus driver for Abilene ISD, where he retired for a second time.

Ronald’s life was filled with music, joy, and unwavering faith. He found great joy in singing, listening to music, watching TV, and keeping in touch with family and friends through frequent phone calls. Often, he was found watching westerns or sports with his favorite teams being the Dallas Cowboys or the Texans. A man of deep faith, Ronald was a dedicated member of Macedonia Baptist Church, where he shared his love for Jesus with those around him.

He is preceded in death by his parents, Jiles A. Ross Jr. and Celia M. Ross-Davis and his brother, William Davis.

Left to cherish Ronalds memories are his wife, Dolly Ross; his children, Ronald Edward Rivers Jr., Rosalyn Guest (Corey), and Kendra Lewis; his nephew, Don Grooms(Angela); his niece, Reeshema Cook; his grandchildren, Ronald Devante Smith, Corey Guest Jr., Darrell Guest, Bria Evans (Adrian), Xzayvien Kocher, Kobe Stone, Alyssa Grooms, Iry Grooms, Michael Diaz, Saniyah Elgin, John Fitzgerald Elgin Jr., and Kieshelle Elgin; his siblings, Cynthia Smith (Edward), Osborn Davis, Bridgette Bridges, Linda Jones, Cheryle Ayers, and Alexis Scranton (Eugene); and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.

Ronald was a beloved husband, friend, and servant of God. His love for his family, his faith, and his community will leave an enduring legacy in the hearts of all who knew him.
