Lt. Col Ronny Coleman Smith USAF retired, 62, passed away Thursday, April 1, 2010 in Abilene. His funeral service will be held at 2:00 PM on Monday, April 5th in the Elmwood Funeral Home Chapel, 5750 HWY 277 South. Visitation will be from 6:00 to 8:00 PM on Sunday at Elmwood Funeral Home. A service will be held in Metter, Georgia with burial in Arlington National Cemetery at a later date.
Ronny was born in Metter, Georgia on October 15, 1947 the son of Clyde William Smith and Annie Coleman Smith. He graduated from Georgia Southern in 1969 and immediately began serving his country in the United States Air Force where he worked as a navigator on C130s. Ronny retired as a Lieutenant Colonel in 1993 while stationed at Dyess Air Force Base. At the time of his death, he was employed with Caprock Home Health in Abilene. He enjoyed pampering and spoiling his four dogs, Peewee, Bodger, Rex and Macy.
Survivors include his wife, Patricia Smith of Abilene his mother, Annie Smith of Metter, Georgia his sister, Janice Jones and husband Jearl of Augusta, Georgia two nieces, Susanne Jones Fordham and husband Keith of Millen, Georgia, Sharon Story and husband Steve and their children, Cody and Ashton of Augusta, Georgia two stepdaughters, Nina Wolfe of Abilene and Megan Wolfe of Fort Worth and one step granddaughter, Charli Ann.
