Roxcie Ann Mitchell-Sumner passed away suddenly after battling ongoing health issues on Thursday, June 29, 2017 in Abilene, Texas. Roxcie Ann was a beacon of light to those who had the privilege of knowing her, a devout Christian that honored her Father with every breath, and a loving and nurturing Mother always there in support of her two children, La'Chelle and Landon.
Roxcie Ann was born on April 14th, 1945 in Portsmouth, Virginia. She grew up and attended high school in Portsmouth, Virginia and attended college at William and Mary. Later, she worked as a dental assistant in Florida, where she also modeled professionally for several different agencies. Roxcie Ann, fell in love with and married David Wayne Mitchell (D.W.)in the spring of 1969. While living in Virginia, they started a family by welcoming their daughter, La'Chelle Tamara Mitchell into the world. In the mid-1970s, D.W., Roxcie Ann and La'Chelle moved to Brownwood, Texas and welcomed their son (brother), Landon Wayne Mitchell. While residing in Brownwood, Texas, Roxcie Ann was very involved with numerous community activities and served on many boards. She served as President of the Woman's Club and the Rotary Ann's in the 1980's, and she also helped build the Budweiser Distributorship (Mitchell Beverage) in Brownwood, Texas.
"Foxy Roxy" or "RAM", as known by her family and friends, always made time to bring a smile to everyone's face. She always made sure that everyone was having a good time and felt comfortable while putting the needs of others in front of her own. Roxcie Ann found joy in and could often be seen reading her Bible, enjoying the precious company of her children or bringing a smile to those around her. Although embattled with disease in the final years of her life, she always stayed positive, kept her faith and never lost her beautiful smile.
Roxcie Ann will be remembered and enormously missed by her father Otis Carlton (O.C.) Sumner of Blanket, Texas; her sister Emma Carrie Sumner of Georgia; her son Landon Wayne Mitchell of Dallas, Texas; her daughter La'Chelle Tamara Mitchell Ruble and her husband Jeremiah Ruble of Abilene, Texas; her daughter-in-law Rachelle Ruble of Abilene, Texas; and the rest of her family and multitude of friends, associates and beautiful souls that Roxcie Ann met in her wonderful life.
Roxcie Ann was preceded in death by her mother Eunice Tyson Sumner and grandparents, George and Emma Tyson.
Funeral Service will be at 10:00am, Thursday, July 6, 2017at Elmwood Funeral Home Chapel. 5750 HWY 277 South, Abilene, Texas. Burial will follow at Elmwood Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 5:30pm-7:30pm, Wednesday, July 5, 2017, at Elmwood Funeral Home.
