Roy Holder

Roy Lee Holder, 89, passed away Sunday, March 22, 2009 in Abilene. Viewing and visitation will be from 5:00 to 7:00 PM on Tuesday, March 24th at Elmwood Funeral Home, 5750 HWY 277 South. His funeral service will be held at 2:00 PM on Wednesday, March 25th in the Elmwood Funeral Home Chapel with burial following in Elmwood Memorial Park.

Mr. Holder was born in Wingate, Texas on December 9, 1919 the son of William Thomas Holder and Lucy Allman Holder. He moved to California in the early 1940s where he enlisted in the U.S. Navy serving on the USS Iowa during WWII. After his service to our country, Roy returned to Texas in 1956 and has been a resident of Abilene since that time. He worked 23 years as a repairman for Sears, retiring in 1985. He was a member of the Northwest Church of Christ.

Survivors include his loving and devoted wife of 51 years, Delaine Loflin Holder; one daughter, Gayla Holder of Abilene; a sister, Irene Walker of Tehachapi, California; two sisters-in-law, several nieces and nephews, cousins and a host of friends.

An infant son, his parents, one sister, Jewel Huckaby, and brothers, Neil Sandy, Doyle, Dean, W.T. Web, and L.B. Shorty preceded him in death.
