Ruby Pearl Brandon was born September 23, 1922 in Bosque County, Texas to Jim and Molly Pearl. Ruby also had an older brother, Craig. Her middle name was Phelba, which was a favorite name of her mothers. They named her Ruby because that is what her father wanted.
In Rubys younger years her family moved about frequently while working on the roads in Texas. They worked and lived quite often with her uncle George and his family. Ruby enjoyed the time with Uncle George and the family because she and her cousins were together and would spend their time playing and riding horses. Ruby married Kenneth Brandon while he was serving his country in World War II. After the war Ruby and Kenneth lived in Okema, Oklahoma and, after several years, moved to Abilene, Texas. Ruby and Kenneth had one daughter, Belinda, who they both loved very much. Ruby often commented that Belinda was the joy of her life.
Ruby was a homemaker and enjoyed cooking and doing projects around the house. She enjoyed growing flowers and helping Kenneth in his garden.
Ruby was a Christian and truly believed in the Lord. She read her Bible often, a habit that was established at an early age by her mother who would read to her and her brother by the light of a coal oil lamp.
When Rubys mother became ill, she cared for her in the family home until her death. She was proud that she could provide the care that her mother needed and was happy to be in a position to do that for her.
Ruby died on Wednesday, March 16th, 2011 at her home. One of her final wishes was granted when she went peacefully during the night while sleeping in the same bed that she was born in. Ruby missed her family very much and often said that she looked forward to seeing them all again one day in heaven.
Even though she is loved and will be missed here on earth, we all rest easy knowing that she is now happy and reunited with family in heaven.
