Ruth Brown

Ruth Arlene Schanbacher Brown, 94, passed away on September 9, 2011 in Abilene. Visitation will be Monday, September 12, 2011 from 10:00 till 11:00 AM, at Elmwood Funeral Home, 5750 Hwy 277 South, followed by a funeral service at 11:00 AM in the Elmwood Chapel. Interment will follow the service at Elmwood Memorial Park.

Arlene was born September 4, 1917 in Newton, KS, to Ralph and Fern Schanbacher. She graduated from Kansas State Teachers College with BS in English Speech. She married Joseph L. Brown on June 16, 1940 and they enjoyed a long marriage until his passing in 1998. They moved to Abilene, TX in 1950 where Mr. Brown was a geologist, and they were active in the Abilene Geological Society and Fairmont United Methodist Church now Southwest Drive UM Church.

Arlene is survived by two daughters, Patricia L. Looney of Shreveport, LA and Pamela Brown Carroll of Fairview, TX 4 grandchildren, Cindy Greganti of Angleton, TX, Bradley Fajardo of Shreveport, LA, Leslie Carroll Walker of Plano, TX, and Rebecca Carroll Leaverton of Garland, TX, and eleven greatgrandchildren.

In lieu of flowers the family suggest memorial donations be made to the UMW United Methodist Women, Southwest Drive United Methodist Church, 3025 Southwest Dr, Abilene, TX 79605
