Ruth Galle Hermann passed away at the age of 88 on Sunday, May 15th, 2022. Ruth was born and raised in View, Texas where she attended Butterfield Elementary School. Later she moved to Abilene where she attended Abilene High School and was an active member of the 4H club. She became a Gold Star Girl of Taylor County from 1949-1950. She also earned the American Legion Girl award in the 8th grade. She lettered in volleyball all 3 years she was active. After high school she married Leon Hermann in 1953 and had 4 children.
Ruth's entire career was spent in bookkeeping and accounting. She worked for Thornton's Department store for 21 years and later went to work for Boy Scouts of America where she worked for over 22 years. She gave her heart and soul to the Chisholm Trail Council. She was also vice president and secretary for Hermann Logging Service. As her children were growing up, she served as an active member and officer of the Alta Vista PTA. Ruth served as a room mother and a very active cub scout leader throughout the years. She believed and lived her life by the Scout Oath and Law and was honored to be bestowed with the Silver Beaver Award on February 2nd, 2002.
Ruth was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church for over 60 years. She served as a volunteer in the St. Vincent DePaul Society. Ruth also served as a volunteer at Central Catholic School for several years.
Ruth Galle Hermann was preceded in death by her husband, Leon Hermann Sr; her parents, Hugo & Erna Braune Galle; all 7 of her siblings, Hildegar Shoemaker, Gladys Caruso, Joyce Stautzenberger, Rachel Sadler, Galle Jr, Erwin Galle; her son, Marvin Hermann; and various aunts, uncles, cousins.
She is survived by her son, Leon Hermann Jr. and wife Patricia, daughter, Janis Langley and husband Frank, son, John Hermann and wife Linda; four grandchildren, Hilary Pippin, Graham Langley, Amy Hermann and Thomas Hermann; She also has two great grandchildren, Alexander & Clara.
Visitation for family and friends will be 6:00 to 8:00 PM on Thursday, May 19, 2022, at Elmwood Funeral Home, 5750 Hwy 277 South. Her funeral service will be 2:00 PM, Friday, May 20, 2022, in the Elmwood Funeral Home Chapel.
