Ruth Helen Newbury, 80, passed away Sunday, August 8, 2010 surrounded by her loving family. Her funeral service will be held at 2:00 PM on Wednesday, August 11th in the Elmwood Funeral Home Chapel, 5750 HWY 277 South with burial following in the Garden of Memories at Elmwood Memorial Park.
Ruth was born in Muskogee, Oklahoma on November 24, 1929 the daughter of Arza Lee Troxel and Helen Betty Bennett Troxel. She grew up in San Diego, California where she met her husband James Newbury. After marriage, Ruth and James began traveling the world together as he served a 24 year career in the U.S. Navy. Following retirement, the Newburys bought a farm in Hawley where they enjoyed raising their children. In the early 1970s, Ruth began buying properties in Abilene and fixing them up to rent to families, she loved being a Landlady and working with and helping others.
Ruth was the matriarch of her family she was always taking care of everyone whether it be cooking a great meal, offering advice or praying to the Lord she loved so much.
Survivors include her children, Vivian Newbury and husband Ron Cook of Abilene, James Newbury of Abilene, Daryl Newbury and wife Frances of Phoenix, Arizona, and Carolin Newbury and husband Larry Tindle of Abilene two sisters, Mary Ann and Barbara 19 Grandchildren, 21 Great Grandchildren and 1 Great Great Grandchild and her beloved pets, her dogs, Rollo and Molly and her cat, Cheecher.
Her husband, James Newbury and a sister, Betty Shelton preceded her in death.
