Sammy Dorse Edington of Abilene went to be with the Lord and Savior on January 28, 2025. Sammy was born on July 19, 1938, to Everett Edington and Goldia Klutz Edington in Burkett, Texas.
He attended Burkett schools and graduated as valedictorian from Burkett High School in 1956.
Even though Sammy was always a farmer at heart, he became a successful banker. He worked for the Production Credit Association of Coleman, Texas. He then became the president of PCA for the state of Wyoming. Sammy moved back to Texas and began his banking career in Baird and Abilene. He retired from First Bank Texas in 2018. He also retired from the Boards of First Bank Texas and The First National Bank of Weatherford in 2018. He made a difference in the lives of many people helping farmers and ranchers over the years to stand when times were hard and to look to the future believing better days were on the horizon. He attended Cisco Jr. College, Central Texas Commercial Business College and Brownwood College. He also attended various courses at Texas A&M.
Sammy was preceded in death by his parents, Everett and Goldia Edington, one son, Stephen, and one grandson, Terry Edington.
Survivors include the love of his life, wife, Becky of 36 years; son, Michael Edington and wife Kelli; daughter, Lisa Reece and husband, Jerry; son, Mark and wife, Lisa; daughter, Tiffany Bates, and son, Derek Thomas. Sammy has 12 grandchildren, Bill Edington and wife, Amber; Samantha Rodden and husband, Robert; Emily Edington, Chloe, Elijah, Sasha and Izzy of California; Gage Gilliam, Colton Grimes. Fallon Gilliam; Michelle Norris and husband Houston and Marshall Reece. Sammy has 4 great grandchildren, his loving sister, Lana Rosenthal survives him. One brother-in-law, Ed Wootton and Les Wootton; and a nephew, Garin Wootton also survives him. He leaves behind many, many, friends. He loved Pioneer Drive Baptist Church and all of the Jabez Class.
There will be a family visitation on February 27, 2025, at Elmwood Funeral Home from 5:00 PM - 7:00 PM. The funeral will be February 28, 2025, at 11:00 AM at Pioneer Drive Baptist Church with the burial to follow at Elmwood Memorial Park.
