Samuel Garza Valdez Sr., 84, passed away Thursday, December 17, 2009 in Abilene. His funeral service will be 10:00 AM, Saturday, December 19, 2009 at Elmwood Funeral Home, 5750 Hwy 277 South. Interment will follow in Elmwood Memorial Park. Visitation will be from 6:00 till 7:00 PM, Friday December 18, 2009 at Elmwood Funeral Home with a prayer service beginning at 7:00 PM.

Samuel was born December 5, 1925 in San Benito, TX to Felix and Elena Valdez. He married Rosa Benavidez in 1946 in the San Antonio area. They relocated to Knox City in the early 1960s where they raised their family and he worked as a farmer. He will be greatly missed by all those who experienced his humor and love.

He is survived by his children, Janie Barrios and husband Ismael of Tomball, Dora Rios and husband Jessie of Knox City, Alice Silva and husband Ray of Abilene, Samuel Jr. and wife Nelda of Abilene, Norma Long and husband Dwayne of Pearland, and his Chihuahua Chiquito; fifteen grandchildren; 14 great grandchildren; one great-great grandchild; one sister Maria Rodriguez of Houston.

Samuel was preceded in death by his parents, four brothers, one sister and one stepdaughter.
