Samuel Wallace Webb died peacefully at his home in Murphy, North Carolina on March 5, 2013 at the age of 92.
A graveside service will be held at Elmwood Memorial Park on Saturday, March 9, 2013 at 2:00 P.M with viewing from noon until 1:30 P.M. at Elmwood Funeral Home, 5750 HWY 277 South.
Sam was born in Patterson, Ohio on April 12, 1920 to Schuyler Samuel Webb and Ethel May McCumber Webb. He was preceded in death by his parents and four siblings, Ruby Taylor, Grace Mask, Teddy Gillen and Walter Webb.
Sam served in the United States armed forces during WWII. He was a Pearl Harbor survivor and was also stationed in Greece, where he earned the Greek Military Distinguished Service Medal.
After leaving the U. S. military, he attended Hardin Simmons University in Abilene, Texas and The University of Texas School of Dentistry in Houston, Texas where he earned his Doctor of Dental Surgery degree. He moved his family back to Abilene where he set up his practice and continued as a dentist there until his retirement in 1984.
Sam was a patriot who loved his country and freedom. He loved hunting, fishing, gardening and outdoor activity. He was a skilled carpenter and enjoyed raising birds including pheasant, turkey and chickens. After his retirement, he moved to Murphy, North Carolina, where he lived until his death.
His is survived by his wife, Judy Webb of Murphy, NC his children daughter, Kathy Webb Hines of Kenton Ohio, son, William Gibson Webb and wife Carolyn of Lagrange, TX daughter, Sanda Webb Warren and husband Bob of Fort Worth, TX, daughter, Brenda Stiles Smith and husband Brian of Roswell, GA. He is also survived by his eight grandchildren, Virginia Warren McElroy and husband Josh of Elko, NV, John Richardson Hines of Kenton, Ohio, Margaret Williams Warren of Fort Worth, TX, Jennigale Lauren Webb of Fort Worth, TX, William Gibson Webb, Jr. of Huntsville, TX, Brandon Jacob Smith, Michael David Smith, and Olivia Rachel Smith, all of Roswell, Georgia. He had one great granddaughter, Nora Margaret McElroy of Elko, NV.
