April 4, 1925 — October 28, 2024

Shirley Pauline (Gardner) Barber

Shirley went to be with her Lord on October 28, 2024 while living in McKinney, Texas.

Shirley was born on April 4th, 1925 in Anson, Texas, the daughter of Hattie (White) and Paul Gardner. She graduated from Anson High School (1942) and from Abilene Christian University (1945). While living in Houston, Shirley met and married Jack Blair Barber. They moved to Abilene to spend their retirement years close to family. Jack passed away in 1992 after a two year battle with cancer.

Shirley loved teaching and helped found a Christian school where she taught first grade. She was an active member of Sharpstown Church of Christ in Houston. She enjoyed the arts - going to symphonies and museums. She also enjoyed traveling and making stained glass. Most of all she loved spending time with her four grandchildren.

Shirley is preceded in death by her mother, Hattie Gardner; her father, Paul Gardner; her husband, Jack Barber; and her sister, Peggy Zimpfer.

She is survived by her daughters, Amy Brand and husband Mike of Shawnee, Oklahoma, Betsy Davis, and husband Terry of McKinney, Texas; her grandchildren, Lindsay Davis Chance and husband Clark, Blair Davis, Whitney Brand Baran and husband Adam, and Lane Davis. She is also survived by her four great grandchildren, Hattie and Millie Chance, and Trudy and Sydney Baran.
