Shirley Martin

July 21, 1946 — February 26, 2010

Shirley Elaine Martin, 63, passed away on Friday, February 26, 2010 at Hendrick Medical Center. Her funeral service will be on Monday, March 1, 2010 at the Elmwood Funeral Home Chapel, 5750 Hwy 277 South with the Reverend Fred Sandlin officiating. Interment will follow the chapel service at Elmwood Memorial Park, Garden of Gospels.

Shirley was born July 21, 1946 in Stamford, TX to Odis and Ethyl Martin. Her family moved to Abilene in 1952 where she graduated from Abilene High School. She began working for Hendrick Medical Center shortly after graduating from High School. At the time of her death she was the longest active tenured employee at Hendrick with 41 years of dedicated service. Shirley was a very active member of Portland Avenue Free Methodist Church up until its closing this past year. Since then she has been faithfully attending Wylie Baptist Church. She was a very loving Christian lady who never met a stranger, she had many friends and showed love to everyone.

She is survived by a community of friends and family at Hendrick Medical Center, Portland Avenue Free Methodist Church and Wylie Baptist Senior Adult Ministries.

Shirley was preceded in death by her parents and one brother, Glenn.
