Shirley Ann Steele, 80, of Abilene passed away Saturday, November 2, 2019 in Abilene.

A graveside service will be held on Thursday, November 7, 2019 at 11 AM at the Texas State Veterans Cemetery at Abilene. A visitation will be held from 9 to 10:30 prior to the service at Elmwood Funeral Home.

Shirley was born on November 5, 1938 in Docking, England to the late William Bray and Beatrice Allen Bray. She married Wayne R. Steele on June 15, 1957 in Fakenham, England. He preceded her in death on March 1, 2015. Shirley worked as a homemaker and was a very devoted wife, mother, grandmother and great grandmother. She was known as the “Go to Grandmother”, if you were in trouble or needed assistance she was always there for her family and friends. In her younger days she was an avid bowler and won many trophies. Shirley was known as a good cook and her home was the preferred go to for the holidays.

Shirley is survived by her children, Gary Steele, Jackie Cox (Doug); grandchildren, Michael Steele, Krissy Buitron-Steele (Nicole), Gregory Wiles (Zachary Tindall), Emily Steele, and Lauren Wiles; great grandchildren, Zaiden Steele and Zaney Steele; siblings, Edward Bray, Christopher Bray, Geraldine Bray; numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and dear friends.

Shirley was also preceded in death by a brother, Alan Bray.
