Jerry Gene McDonald, 86, of Abilene, TX passed away Monday, December 19, 2022, in Abilene, TX.
A funeral service will be held on Friday, December 23, 2022, at 10:00 AM at Broadview Baptist Church. Interment will follow at Elmwood Memorial Park.
Jerry was born the seventh of nine children to Earl and Jane (Ellis) McDonald in Mansfield Arkansas. He married Janet Yost on March 23, 1955 and together they raised two children- Kevin and Karen. His life's work was 23 years in the U.S. Air Force, which included service in Thailand, and Taiwan during the Vietnam era. He then spent several years in the building industry. When he retired he stayed busy restoring 1955, 56, and 57 Chevys.
Jerry was a member of Broadview Baptist Church where he served as a deacon. He spent many hours studying his Bible, and actively sharing his faith. He had a deep concern for visiting the homebound and forgotten, and spent several years as a "Visiting Friend" of the Hospice of the Big Country. Even as dementia took his mind, he still spent Saturdays getting ready for Sunday services.
Jerry is survived by his wife Janet, his sister, Janey Williams, his children, Kevin (Sharon) and Karen Stancik (Tim), his grandchildren, Patrick McDonald, Julia McDonald Berry (Matthew), Vincent Stancik (Lizzie), and Colton Stancik, his great grandchildren, Fiona, Charlotte, Ryliegh, Maverick, and Micah, a number of nieces and nephews, a bonus girl Kayla Wheeler, as well as many loved friends.
Jerry was preceded in death by his parents and seven siblings, other relatives, and friends.
The family offers so much thanks to all who have followed and walked with us on this journey- friends and caregivers alike. Special thanks of Hospice of the Big Country and Windcrest (unit 5). Who worked with hospice caring for Jerry.
