Sophia Ramirez

Sophia Ramirez, 81, passed away on Thursday, March 5, 2009 in Abilene. Viewing and visitation will be from 3:00 PM to 6:00 PM on Sunday, March 8th at Elmwood Funeral Home, 5750 HWY 277 South. Her funeral service will be held at 1:00 PM on Monday, March 9th in the Elmwood Funeral Home Chapel with burial following in Elmwood Funeral Home.

Sophia grew up in Fisk, Texas and married Nicholas Ramirez on October 23, 1954 in Coleman County and they came to Abilene to make their home that same year. She was a longtime member of the Kingdom Hall of Jehovahs Witness and has worked as a housekeeper for various families in Abilene for over 30 years.

Sophia will be remembered as a loving and devoted wife, mother and grandmother. She was compassionate and giving with an independent spirit.

Survivors include her husband, Nicholas Ramirez of Abilene; two daughters, Maria Esther Johnson and husband Michael of Abilene, Gloria Shehan and husband David of Phoenix, Arizona; two grandchildren, Dustin Johnson and Sophia Shehan; one great granddaughter, Tazia Johnson; and a sister-in-law, Reyna Vasquez of Abilene.
