Sumiko Wells passed away February 16, 2023. A memorial service will be held March 25, 2023, at 10 am in the Elmwood Funeral Home Chapel, 5750 Hwy 277 South, Abilene, Tx. Interment will be in the Texas State Veterans Cemetery at Abilene at a later date.
Sumiko was born February 2, 1929, to Takesuki Muromoto and Yuki Ami. She grew up in Japan and was extremely proud of her heritage, being a descendant of the Samurai. Her life was full of hardship, losing her father when she was five and her mother when she was thirteen. She survived the war in her teens, a car accident in her forties, cancer in her sixties, and then a stroke and Covid in her nineties. She was proud of every job she had from being a maid, a waitress, a cashier, a supervisor and finally a shop steward. She loved to dance, sing and just be around people - always trying to make them laugh, spreading hugs and inviting them to her home. She married James Wells April 5, 1957, in Fukuoka Japan. She loved the Lord and tried to attend church weekly.
She is preceded in death by her husband of 61 years, James Wells; her parents, Takesuki Muromoto and Yuki Ami; a child, Bon Kage from Fukuoka, Japan; her siblings in Japan; and grandchild, Christopher Alan Ricker.
Sumiko is survived by her children, James William Wells JR, Melanie Sue Ricker, David Wayne Wells and wife April Dawn; grandchildren, David Michael Wells, and Judith Albany Wells.
