Teiko Armistead

Teiko Morita Armistead passed away on October 7, 2018, in Abilene Regional Hospital.

A Memorial Service will be held Thursday, October 11, 2018 at First Central Presbyterian Church with Dr. Clifford Stewart and Dr. Janice Six officiating. Private family burial will follow the service at Elmwood Memorial Park.

Teiko was born in Osaka, Japan, on April 11, 1932 to Takehide and Hatsui Morita. She attended Osaka Girls High School. She then worked in various positions for the US Army forces until her marriage to John Wilson Armistead in 1957. Teiko came to the United States in 1959 and became a citizen in Abilene, TX, shortly before Tom was born at Dyess Hospital in 1965.

After John's retirement from the Army in 1976, they made their home in Abilene. She worked as a seamstress for S&Q clothiers and in Dillards Department Store until her retirement in 1993.

At first Central Presbyterian Church she was a member of the Friendly Sunday School Class and a volunteer at the Presbyterian Food Pantry.

Teiko was an Avid bowler, a member of several bowling leagues and enjoyed gardening and quilting.

Teiko was preceded in death by her parents, Takehide and Hatsui Morita; a brother, Taketoshi Morita; sisters, Akiko Komatsu and Mieko Morita. She is survived by her husband; sons, James of Abilene and Tom of Philadelphia; sisters, Eiko and husband Eigi Morita of Osaka, Yoshiko of Osaka, Junko of Osaka, and Takako of Osaka.

In lieu of flowers the family asks for donations to be made to the Food Pantry in care of First Central Presbyterian Church, 400 Orange St., Abilene, TX 79601, or the charity of your choice.
