Terry was born in Merkel, TX to parents, Lee Roy and JoAnn Benningfield. He grew up in Abilene and graduated from Cooper High School in 1973. He married Robbye Cleveland in 1981 and they lived in Noodle, TX where they began raising their family. Terry farmed and worked in the oilfield for many years and has worked for Texas Leadership Charter Academy in Abilene for the last several years.
He was an elder and faithful member at Grace Point Church. Terry loved serving his church family and was the epitome of what he always said, “We are blessed to be a blessing!” He enjoyed fishing, hunting, and was the family fish fryer. Working in his yard was a passion but his true enjoyment came from spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren. “And remember kids, “always wear your socks in the house!”
Terry is survived by his wife, Robbye; children, Jason Clinton and wife Crystal, Elizabeth Gray and husband Juston, Jessica Benningfield, and Dusti Benningfield; his grandchildren, Briley, Brady, Ashlyn, Auston, Aidon, Kaylee, Kaleb, and Kynlee; his mother, JoAnn Smith; his sisters, Pam Parker and husband Jimmy, and Debbie Brown; several aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, and cousins.
He was preceded in death by his father, Lee Roy Benningfield.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorial donations in Terry’s honor to Grace Point Church's Building Fund, 221 Oak St., Abilene, TX 79602 or Hendrick Hospice Care, 1651 Pine St., Abilene, TX 79601
