Terry R. Carpenter SR, 70, died Saturday, December 5, 2009 in Abilene. A memorial service will be held at 2:00 PM on Tuesday, December 8th at Westminster Presbyterian Church, 4515 S. 14th. Inurnment will follow at 4:00 PM in Elmwood Memorial Park.
Mr. Carpenter was born on March 4, 1939 in Meriden, Connecticut. He served in the U.S. Army for 27 years including two tours in Vietnam for which he received a Congressional Medal of Honor and a Purple Heart. He has lived in Abilene for the past 14 years where he was an avid League Bowler and a member of the Westminster Presbyterian Church. He enjoyed coin and stamp collecting and working on cars.
Survivors include one son, Terry Carpenter Jr. and wife Victoria of Waco and their son, Terry Carpenter III; one daughter, Janell Rust of College Station and her children and grandchildren; two brothers, Stephen Carpenter of Hampton, Massachusetts and Bob Carpenter of Raleigh, North Carolina; and several nieces and nephews including, Mark Carpenter of New Hampshire.
His sons, Donald Keith Carpenter, James Owen Carpenter, and his wife, Lela Scott Carpenter preceded him in death.
