Terry Ann Washington-Jones, 64 years old, transitioned on Thursday December 8, 2022. A homegoing celebration will be Saturday, December 17, 2022, at 1:00 p.m., at Macedonia Baptist Church, 608 North 7th Street, Abilene, Texas. A visitation will be Friday, December 16, 2022, from 5:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at Macedonia Baptist Church. The burial will follow at Elliott-Hamil Garden of Memories, 5701 Hwy 277 South in Abilene. Final arrangements have been entrusted to Elmwood Funeral Home and Memorial Park, Abilene.
Terry Ann Washington-Jones was born on July 7, 1958, in Abilene, Texas to Willie Lee and Annie T. Jones Washington. She was the oldest of four children and lovingly fulfilled the role of mentor for her siblings.
She grew up in Abilene and started her Christian journey as a member of Mount Zion First Baptist Church, where in her younger years she was active in the young adult choir and served as the secretary of the Sunday School. She attended schools in Abilene Independent School District and graduated from Cooper High School. Terry continued her education at the American Commercial College and earned a certification in business.
After college, she entered the working world as a researcher at the First State Bank in Abilene. She left Abilene to enter a career as a Computer Technician with the Fleming Computer Company in Oklahoma and later retired from Commercial Metal in Dallas, Texas. Terry had a passion for black art and figurines, which inspired her to become an entrepreneur, as she sold canvas art and statues from Artistic Impressions and Ebony Treasures. She also sold original/signed art from independent black artists such as: Elaine Dungill, J. Rose, Annie France Lee, Robert Brasher and many more.
Terry is preceded in death by her maternal grandparents, Lamar Jones and Lou Mattie Wilburn, paternal grandparents, Joe and Cora Washington and a host of aunts and uncles.
Terry is survived by her parents, Willie and Ann Washington of Abilene, Texas; her sister, Janet Washington Joiner (Dwayne) of Waco, Texas; brothers Regent Washington of Fort Worth, Texas, and Lawrence Washington (Karla), of Grand Prairie, Texas; her nephew, Jeremy Washington of Abilene, Texas; six nieces Kieshawnda (Shay) Washington of Arlington, Texas; D'Yonne Joiner, Jocelyn Joiner West (Ron) and Ebony Joiner all of Waco, Texas; Precious and Lawren Washington of Grand Prairie, Texas; her great-nephew, Braydon West of Waco, Texas; two uncles, Tommy Jones of Abilene, Texas and L.V Hawkins (Darlene) of Graham, Texas; two aunts, Ann Hall of Graham, Texas and Lula Mae (Lump) Smith of San Antonio, Texas; very special cousins, who were loved as sisters, Lasonja Coleman, Tonya Hunter, Kimala Scarlett, Marian McGee, Johnnie Curley, sister-in-law Elizabeth Morris-Brown and a host of other cousins, family members and friends.
