Thurman Head

Funeral services for Thurman Burks Head, 81, of Tye, will be held at 11 AM on Saturday, July 10, 2010, at Elmwood Funeral Home Chapel, 5750 hwy 277 South, with Reverend LaVerne Janssen officiating. Burial will follow at Elmwood Memorial Park. Thurman died peacefully Monday, July 5, 2010 in his home. Visitation will be held from 6 till 8 PM on Friday, July 9, 2010 at Elmwood Funeral Home.

He was born July 24, 1928 in Eskota, Fisher County, Texas to M. Tyros and Jessie Washburn Head. He served in the United States Army. Thurman married Laura Mae Williams September 28, 1950 in Abilene. He proudly wore many hats as husband, father, masonry contractor, dairy farmer, bass fisherman, race car driver, and most recently as crew chief for the Lazy 8 racing team. Thurman and Laura made their home in Abilene until 1964 when they moved to Irving, Morgan Mill and Roanoke. Thurman returned to Abilene in 2006.

He is survived by a son, Kirk Head of Abilene granddaughters, Lisa Hammond and Andrea Renfro great granddaughter, Catelin Renfro ex daughter in law, Jan Renfro of Haslet brothers in law, Paul Williams and Bobby Remmers of Abilene sister in law, Ouida Head of Abilene and numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, family and friends

He was preceded in death by his wife Laura in 2005, a brother, Edgar a sister, Mary Reda McKee and his parents.
