Valorie Kay New, 65, passed away Saturday, May 12, 2012 in Abilene. Her funeral service will be held at 10:00 AM on Tuesday, May 15th in the Elmwood Funeral Home Chapel, 5750 HWY 277 South with interment following in Elmwood Memorial Park. Visitation is from 6:00 to 8:00 PM on Monday at Elmwood Funeral Home.
Kay was born on March 21, 1947 in Memphis, Texas the daughter of Onis Marion Gilbert and Viola Beatrice Barton Gilbert. She worked several years as an LVN for Dr. Michelle Johnson and at the Abilene State School before working 14 years as a cake decorator at the Albertsons Bakery. Kay has been a resident of Abilene for the past 36 years where she was a faithful member of the Church of God. She enjoyed sewing, quilting and maintaining a beautiful yard.
Survivors include her husband of 36 years, Jim New of Abilene her children, Valerie Bowers and husband Gerald of Abilene, Beverly Whitehead and husband Buck of Shreveport, Louisiana and Jimmy Lee New Jr. of Tye four sisters, Starlene Hill Joe, Connie Snyder Fred, Deborah Reed Pat, and Shannon Sampley James two brothers, Marion Gilbert Tootsie and Ronald Gilbert Rhonda 20 grandchildren and 12 great grandchildren.
Her parents, and brothers, Charlie, Donald and Joe Gilbert preceded her in death.
