Vernell Esh

July 3, 1930 — February 24, 2011

Vernell Yancy Esh was born on July 3, 1930. She departed this world to be with her Heavenly Father on February 24, 2011. Vernell was named Vella Vernell Yancy for her mother Vella Yancy. She was known as Vernell to all her friends and family. Her mother, Vella, and her father, Emmitt Yancy, preceded her to Heaven. She was also preceded to Heaven by her husband, Norman Richard Esh, and two brothers, John and Franklin. The noise level of their joyful reunion in Heaven was likely noticeable.
Although her birth passage to Heaven was made long and painful by Alzheimers disease and associated problems, she has now been born into Heaven as the young, beautiful and vibrant woman we remember well. We are not sure she will be happy with us, however, for finally revealing her age. During her lifetime, Vernell made a difference in the lives of many people. She was a longtime member of First Baptist Church of Abilene, Texas, serving on several committees there. Many of her friends remember her competitive 42 playing.
Before the onset of Alzheimers, many admired the way she maintained her beautiful yard. As her family will testify, she loved a good argument and she could play some good jokes on her friends as well. She enjoyed having fun with friends and family. She was a strict but loving and supportive mother. During her last few years, she was a resident of Granbury, Texas.
During her career as an optical nurse, Vernell worked for Dr. Hubert Seale, Dr. W. H. Seale, and Dr. William Gollihar.
Vernell is survived by, her two daughters, Teresa Graham and Judy Boley two sonsinlaw, Jack Graham and Carroll Boley four grandchildren, Scott, Kimberly, Shawn, and Heather four greatgrandchildren, Mia, Madison, Molly, and Vivian one sisterinlaw, Jo Ann Yancy cousins, nieces, and nephews. Her late husband, Norman Esh, has one surviving daughter and soninlaw, Pamela and Ron Bertanzi and one granddaughter, Sara.
Today Vernells family celebrates her life, her belief in Jesus Christ, her love, her laughter, even her arguments, and especially her birth into Heaven. A graveside service only is planned for Monday, February 28, 2011 at 11:00 AM at Elmwood Memorial Park, 5750 Hwy 277 South.
