Vicky Weathers Smedley, 70, of Abilene, Texas passed away Friday June 16, 2017 at her residence. A celebration of life will be held 3:00PM on Tuesday, June 20, 2017 at Wylie United Methodist Church, 3430 Antilley Road with Pastor Dave Anderson officiating. Visitation will be 5:00 PM - 7:00 PM on Monday June 19, 2017 at Elmwood Funeral Home, 5750 Hwy 277 South.
Vicky was born May 6, 1947 in Slaton, Texas to David Grayson and Frances Victoria Weathers. The family moved to Abilene when Vicky was 4 years old and she attended Abilene Schools where she graduated from Cooper High School in 1965. She married the love of her life Jimmy Reid Smedley September 26, 1974 in Abilene Texas.
Vicky and Jimmy were very adventurous in their early days. Vicky owned a Yamaha 175 and they loved to ride often. They spent plenty of time at several different lakes, camping, fishing and water skiing. Vicky had her pilot's license and was a marksman with a gun. She also loved the mountains and the beach, and frequented Cloud Croft, Ruidoso and Port Aransas.
Vicky worked for more than 30 years as an executive secretary, administrative assistant, office manager and executive assistant for companies such as Merchants, Ingroup, Alcon Laboratories and Arkansas Best Freight. She then went to work for the Abilene Chamber of Commerce where she retired after 20 years in 2013. She was heavily involved in all facets of the Chamber and loved all of her business associates. She was a board member for Junior Achievement and Food Bank of Abilene. She was a Charter Member and the first President of the Abilene Downtown Kiwanis Club. Vicky was instrumental with Membership Development, Abilene Business Council, Business Expo, and Leadership Abilene, where she was "Momma" to everyone.
Vicky is preceded in death by her husband, Jimmy Reid Smedley; her parents, David and Frances; her brother, Van Grayson Weathers.
Vicky is survived by a son, David Smedley and wife Diane; other survivors include, Tony Smedley, Sean McKinney, Philip Morris, Andrew McNeill, Daniel McNeill, Kallie Martin, cousins and close friends.
