Virginia Ann English, 83, passed away surrounded by family on March 18th, 2024. Virginia was born November 6th, 1940, to Wilmer and Lena May Criswell in Merkel, Texas.
Virginia was a graduate of Merkel High School and attended the University of North Texas. She married Ronald Carroll English January 19, 1962.
Virginia worked for the Abilene Independent School District in the Special Education department for 25 years where she made life long and cherished friendships that she treasured. She was a member of the Jacee -ettes and longtime member of the Junior League of Abilene.
Virginia was most proud of her family. She loved spending time with family and playing an active role in their activities. Being a part of a golf family, it didn't take long for golf to become a love for Viginia as well. Often watching her husband and son in golf tournaments, she also was a long time and active member of the Ladies Golf Association. Virginia looked forward to Thursday night golf and especially all the laughs she and her friends shared on their Saturday morning golf outings. Viginia found a lot of pleasure gardening, enjoying her plants, and cooking. She was an avid sports fan of all sports within the community but was always happy to break down the state of the Cowboys or the latest in golf news after a busy sports weekend.
Virginia was preceded in death by her husband, Ron English, parents, Lena May and Wilmer Criswell; an infant sister, Betty June; brother Robert J. Criswell; and sister Mary Boone.
She is survived by her son, Ronald English II of Draper, UT; daughter, Tami English of Dallas, TX; granddaughter, Sophie Clark of Dallas, TX; sister, Kathryn Whisenhunt and husband Bill, of Cisco, TX; as well as numerous nieces and nephews.
Virginia fought this cancer with the same dignity and incredible strength that she embodied throughout her life. Her family wishes to thank the Doctors and Nurses at Hendricks Oncology and Hendricks Hospice Center for their care and compassion through this time-period.
