Vivian Earline Rodgers Johnson, 93, of Abilene, Texas, passed away Sunday, January 8, 2017. A memorial service will be Friday, January 13, 2017 at 10:00 a.m. at St. Paul United Methodist Church, 525 Beech St, Abilene, TX 79601.
Mrs. Johnson was born in Winters, Texas to James E Rodgers and Mary Ellen Dorsett. She graduated from Texas Tech in 1945 with a degree in English and then also earned her master's degree for Education in 1950. She met her husband James E. Johnson Sr. and they were married on April 12, 1952. They began their family and had three sons and one daughter. Mrs. Johnson continued with education, teaching at several schools in the Big Country including, Winters, Edinburgh, Haskell, Abilene, and Seymour.
Earline was a very loving person and a wonderful educator, but most of all was an amazing wife, mother and grandmother. She was a member of St. Paul United Methodist Church and was in the Propheteers Class.
She is preceded in death by her parents; and her husband, James.
She is survived by her children, James E. Johnson Jr. of San Antonio; Jeffrey E. Johnson of Abilene; Jan E. Johnson of Houston; and Jerry E. Johnson and wife Janet of Ft. Worth; five grandchildren, Rebecca, Russell, Christina, Jessica, Jeremy; and 1 great-grandchild, Liam.
