Walter "Gene" Hudgins, 74, passed away September 11, 2015 in Abilene. Graveside funeral service will be 2:00 PM, Monday, September 14, 2015 in Elmwood Memorial Park, 5750 Hwy 277 South.
Gene was born May 20, 1941 in Roscoe, TX to John Henry Hudgins & Estelle Richards Hudgins.
He married Shirley Leonard on July 15, 1961. Together they had two sons. He served 6 six years in the Texas Army National Guard, as a Sgt. E-5. He was a man's man - a simple man who worked in the oil field industry for some 50 years. He retired from the oil field after working the last 27 years at Dansco. He dearly loved his work at Dansco, and they showed that same love towards he and his wife.
He enjoyed Fishing, Golfing, Hunting, Crocheting Blankets and watching western movies over and over and over. John Wayne and Clint Eastwood were his favorites.
He loved his wife of 54 years and enjoyed his children and grandchildren very much. They knew Daddy and Papa loved them.
He was preceded in death by his parents, sister - Martha Davis, sister - Shirley Butler, brother - Billy John Hudgins, and his canine buddy - a 100 pound Chocolate Lab named "Coco".
He is survived by his wife, son Gene Jr. and wife Connie of Anson, son Jack and wife Kalana of Abilene, 3 granddaughters, 2 step grandchildren, 2 grandson's in law and 2 great grandsons, 1 sister in law, and multiple nieces and nephews.
