Wanda L. Van Zandt Smith, 82 passed away Monday, September 26, 2011 in Katy, TX. Funeral service will be 10:00 AM Friday, September 30, 2011 at Elmwood Funeral Chapel, 5750 Hwy 277 South, Abilene, TX. Interment will follow the service at Elmwood Memorial Park. Visitation will be Thursday, September 29, 2011 from 6:00 to 8:00 PM at Elmwood Funeral Home.
Wanda was born October 6, 1928 in Zephyr, TX and later moved to Abilene, TX. Wanda graduated from Abilene High School and attended Abilene Christian University where she met the love of her life, William Branch Smith. The couple married in 1947 and lived in various locations in Texas before retiring in Houston, TX. Wanda was a homemaker and a devoted mother to her three children. Wanda was a member of Westbury Church of Christ in Houston, TX.
Wanda was preceded in death by her husband, William Branch Smith son, William Patrick Smith parents, Raymond and May Van Zandt mother and fatherinlaw, Lorah and W.C. Smith and sister, Barbara Williams.
Wanda is survived by her daughter and soninlaw, Brenda and Joseph Pechacek of Katy, TX daughter and soninlaw, Pamela and Mike Strawn of Lubbock, TX brother, Kenneth R. Van Zandt, Houston, TX sister, Lanelle Maner of Mesa, AZ granddaughter and grandsoninlaw, Dawn M. and Peter Lopez of Katy, TX grandson and granddaughterinlaw, Peter V. and Elaine Pechacek of Orlando, FL two great granddaughters, Amber and Mia and two great grandsons, Christian and Mason sistersinlaw, Amelia and Elaine Smith of College Station, TX and Gwendell Clemmer of Merkel, TX brothersinlaw, Bill Williams of Albuquerque, NM and Larry Maner of Mesa, AZ nephews, Dr. Scott Van Zandt, Mark Clemmer, Gary Williams, Jon Smith, Chris Smith, Ronald, James and David Richey nieces, Kathy Thomas, Rachel Smith, Teresa Wheeler, Beth and Becky Williams, Cindy Fischer and Karen Juarez and several nieces and nephews inlaw and great nieces and nephews.
The family would like to thank Tuscany Living nursing staff for their love and daily devotion to Wandas care during the past several months. In lieu of flowers memorial donations are suggested to The Alzheimers Association, https:act.alz.org or charity of choice.
