Wanda Thane

June 3, 1931 — July 26, 2016

Wanda Lou Dalrymple Thane was called home to be with the Lord on Tuesday, July 26, 2016 surrounded by her family.

Wanda was born June 3, 1931 in Oklaunion, Texas to Otis and Ida Dalrymple. Her dad worked for Burlington/Denver Railroad which brought them to Stamford, Texas as a young girl, where she attended Stamford schools. She met the love of her life, Melvin Gene Thane, while working at the movie theater in Stamford. They married in December 16, 1950. They moved to Abilene, Texas in 1957 where Wanda worked for Lone Star Gas Company, Montgomery Wards, and England Storage and Transfer. In 1980 she opened T-Tiny Gift Shop. Wanda was a member of Epworth Methodist Church and most recently attended Second Baptist Church.

Wanda is preceded in death by her father Otis Dalrymple, mother Ida Wellington Dalrymple, a brother Arlen Dalrymple, granddaughter Tammy Michele Thane, two sister-in-laws Janet Thane and Joe Ann Thane, and brother-in-law Leland Thane.

She is survived by her husband Melvin Gene Thane of Abilene, Texas; son Gerald Thane and wife Cori of Midland, Texas; son Scott Thane and wife Phyllis of Odessa, Texas; daughter Belinda Massey and husband Scott of Carrollton, Texas. Six Grandchildren, Dustin Thane and wife Amy of Lubbock, Texas; Lisa McCormick and husband David of Highland Village, Texas; John Rogers of Midland, Texas; Ashlee Thane of Midland, Texas; Jason Massey of Minneapolis, Minnesota; Stephen Massey of Bellingham, Washington; and 8 great grandchildren.

Wanda loved her family. She enjoyed traveling across the United States with her husband. They loved to drive in order to see the land and meet people along the way. She never met a stranger - which is why she enjoyed volunteering at Hendrick Memorial Hospital in the gift shop, the Arts and Craft Exhibit with the West Texas State Fair, the Women's Auxiliary with the Abilene Fire Fighters Association, and being active in Beta Sigma Phi for over 40 years. Wanda was extremely proud of being the daughter of a railroad man and the wife of an Abilene Firefighter. She enjoyed having friends and family over for visits, playing dominoes and Skip Bo. Her homemade hot dinner rolls were always a hit with family and friends. Wanda Thane was a true inspiration to anyone that she met and will truly be missed by many loved ones.
